Throughout my 4 years, I've listened to people ask teachers, "Why do we have to learn this stuff, we'll never use it". And I've also thought to myself, "Yeah, they're right". However, looking back, all of these classes have helped me at one point or another, whether in life, at my workplace, or going on to college. To me, English, Science, Math, and Computer Skills are just a few of the main courses that are absolutely necessary. I've used these main 4 subjects a lot throughout my life. Knowing how to effectively communicate (verbally, electronically, and written) is vital in the workplace and each step gets easier. To be knowledgeable in basic math and a little bit of algebra is vital as well. Working in a restaurant or gas station you will use some algebra. For other entry level jobs, such as Pharmacy Technician, or Lab Assistant, you will most likely be using a more advanced form of algebra and science as well. And finally, the use of technology WILL be used in the majority of places you might work at. Being able to type fast and adept in internet and computer skills help you and your company by saving time.
At Lincoln, I decided to take a wide variety of electives to see which subject(s) I might be interested in more. Keyboarding, Foods/Nutrition, and Spanish were my first 3 electives I enjoyed. Then computer applications, biotechnology, zoology, and Choir. Taking these classes gave me the opportunity to realize these are things I like to do. I enjoy typing/word processing on the computer, I enjoy cooking anything other than basic american food (Italian, Greek, Mexican), speaking Spanish (though I haven't spoken in spanish or conjugated a verb in a while). I also enjoy learning about plants and animals and their beauty and intricate designs, and I spend a lot of time downloading freeware to use and using applications such as powerpoint, excel, and access. Finally, I enjoy every aspect of music, whether it's singing, theory, analysis, composing. Taking these classes have helped shaped my personality and interests.
Also in my 4 years at Lincoln, I've learned some personal life lessons from a few of my previous teachers as well as sharing a fun experience. (Still editing)
